Stints are a new feature introduced in June 2026, and are a period of time, up to 2 hours, chosen by a member, where Sentlive will stand Sentry during the Stint, and monitor the member more closely than in normal use.
When to use Stints #
A member can begin a Stint whenever they want, but they are specifically designed to be of most use during some kind of activity or event, such as when walking somewhere, a jog, a late-night journey, or whenever travelling, particularly alone. These may often be a regular routine, such as a commute to work, or cycling to school, where the time taken in normal circumstances is known.
How to begin a Stint #
First you must go to the Stints page (linked in the menu when logged in), and then there is a simple form to complete, where you select a period of time, a delay of up to 30 minutes before any Signal is sent (if the Sentry detects something is wrong), and who any Signal is sent to, with a choice of your Crew only, everyone you are connected to (i.e. Crew and any Loops), or a specific Loop. At this point you can then either begin the Stint, or save the settings for when you want to begin – if you do the latter, the next time you return to the Stints page, they will be ready for you to start.
During a Stint #
Once the Stint begins, you don’t have to do anything except use the app normally and respond to any checks that might occur from the Sentry (or anyone else), and also at the end of the Stint you will have the option to extend your Stint, or confirm it has ended. Failure to do any of these is almost certain to trigger a Signal. Your chosen contact group(s) will only be informed if there appears to be some sort of issue, such as you not responding to a check, or a combination of factors suggesting something is wrong. These factors are different depending on device and availability, but no single one determines that a Signal is sent to your chosen connections; they include whether your device is actually on or not, whether your location is available, whether or when you have responded or interacted with the app, whether particular motion is or is not detected, and a variety of other possible factors.
On the Stints page there are some tips to ensure that your Stint works as well as it can; please try to stick to this guidance for the best outcome.
