If you have used our web app on an iOS device, you may have noticed that there are some things that don’t work as smoothly as they should, and below is a list of those things, and an explanation about what is going on. Most of this is due to Apple being quite slow in embracing the PWA (Progressive Web Apps) technology due to what we believe is financial reasons, rather than the safety or technical reasons they cite, because they receive up to 30% of the price of subscriptions or other purchases made within apps on their App Store. The good news is that over time they have gradually allowed many previously unavailable features, and the hope is that this will continue.
Links to the site #
If you click on a link to Sentlive, for example in a social media post, and have our app installed, it may not open the app but instead open your preferred browser. This can, in some instances, be worked around by ‘long holding’ the link and then choose ‘Open in app’ (or equivalent). Another quirk of iOS with links is that if you already have our app open, while it should go to the app, it doesn’t take you to the actual page that the link points to. This is simply because Apple has not yet updated iOS to allow this behaviour which is standard on Android and most other operating systems.
Push Notifications #
These are the messages you will get when, for example, a new message arrives, or someone mentioned you on Facebook; previously these were not available at all in PWAs, but from iOS 16.4 and higher these are now available.
Sounds #
In Sentlive, when a new message arrives in your inbox, there is meant to be a sound to alert you to this; unfortunately this is another limitation of current versions of iOS, but is also an issue with certain browsers and the individual settings of those. We have offered a built in workaround for this, where you can choose to have new messages notified via push notifications; just go to your profile, then Settings, and turn on ‘Notifications for Private Messages’ in your Notification Settings.
Other Issues #
If you encounter any other issues while using SentLive on an iOS device, please tell us by using any of the methods we offer – the Contact Us forms, social media messaging or email – and we will look at it immediately.
