The messaging system in SentLive allows users to chat one to one, or with several users on one chat, and can be accessed in a couple of ways; either through the Inbox section on your Profile page, or a chat icon in the bottom right of every page. The system is similar to other messaging apps, although at present it is text chat and file sending only, with no video or audio call option. System notifications are also delivered via the system.
Notifications #
When new messages arrive while you are viewing the site, you are notified about them with a chime sound (see this article if you do not hear it), a little red number on the chat icon, and if your browser has the facility, a number in brackets alongside the page name in the browser tab; if you have allowed push notifications you will be notified on your device of a new message.
Settings #
To access the message settings, go to your Inbox (within your Profile) and then click the little cog icon at the bottom left of the white box. You can choose who can start conversations with you, either Everyone or Nobody, whether you want the chime sound when new messages arrive, and finally there is a list of blocked users, if you have blocked anyone. If you do not want to receive push notifications for private messages, there is a separate setting for this in the Settings section of your Profile.
Blocking Users #
To block a user who has sent you a message, click on the message in the left hand list; when the message opens in the main pane, at the top right of the Inbox you will see three vertical dots – click this and in the menu that opens you should see 6 options, with the second one being ‘Block User’. Click that, then OK to the confirmation popup, and the user will no longer be able to send you messages. Should you wish to unblock a user, go to the cog icon in the bottom left of the Inbox and click that to open Settings; at the bottom of the Settings pane you can see a list of any users you have blocked – simply click ‘Unblock User’, then OK to the confirmation popup, and the user is unblocked. Please note that blocking a user here only affects their ability to send you messages.
Reporting A Message #
If you receive a message that you find either offensive or unpleasant, you have the facility to report it to us. Open the conversation and go to the particular message in the pane, and click on the three vertical dots next to the Reply option; this opens a menu, and you should click on the last item, Report. This opens a short form for you to complete; select from the list of Reasons (one of Inappropriate, Spam, Harrassment, Offensive or Other) and add a description of the problem. Finally click ‘Report Message’ – we will investigate and deal with the matter as appropriate. Please note that you also have the facility to report another user by going to either their profile, or the Sentlive Members page and clicking the Report button, and completing that form.
Sending and Reading Messages #
To compose a new message, either click on the icon (found at the top left of the Inbox in your profile), or ‘Start a New Conversation/Chat’ wherever you see it, and then select the member you want to message. To continue or read an existing message, simply click on the message in the left side of the Inbox.
Deleting and ‘Favouriting’ Messages #
To delete a message, there are two methods; either click the three vertical dots at the top right of each message in the list, or open the message and click the three vertical dots at the top right of the Inbox, then select ‘Delete conversation’ – there are several other options which should be self explanatory as well. You can also mark any message within a conversation as a favourite by clicking or tapping the star next to any individual comment within a thread.
